UEFA Initiates Formal Investigation Against Pedro Neto Following Push Involving PSG Youth Assistant.
UEFA has commenced disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea's the Portuguese international following an incident where he pushed over a young stadium attendant in the Champions League loss by PSG.
The Portugal international, Pedro Neto, shoved the boy in the dying moments of Wednesday's last-16 fixture at Parc des Princes – where Chelsea lost 5-2 – which caused him falling from a chair.
It sparked a confrontation between players from both teams.
Officials stated proceedings have been instigated against the player on grounds of "unsporting behaviour" under the official rules.
"The relevant committees will decide on this case in the coming days," UEFA added in its statement.
Neto apologised for the incident and blamed getting swept up "in the emotion of the game" as he tried to get back the match ball.
"I'm not like this. Emotions were running high and I offer my apologies. I gave him my shirt. I'm really sorry about it - I feel I have to apologise to him," Neto explained to broadcasters.
"I have limited French, and [Portugal team-mate] Vitinha came over and explained to him I was not like this.
"Eventually he [the ball boy] laughed and I gave him my shirt and said sorry repeatedly. He realized what had happened and was satisfied with the situation."
Chelsea face Paris St-Germain in the upcoming second leg in the second leg, following Newcastle's visit at their home ground this weekend in domestic competition.
