The Showrunner Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.
The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
As the debut season of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.
About the Tremendous Audience Reaction
Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is doing his best to steer clear of all that.
“The experience is akin to constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”
In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by what people are saying.”
“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.
The Central Mystery: Does the creator Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?
Considering the writers aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… sort of.
“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to throw out a good idea for a better idea. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.
“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Of course, one could always use the legendary finales?
“My dream is Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
