Suspected Stalker Questioned: 'But Imagine I Might Be Madeleine?'
A individual indicted with stalking Kate McCann reportedly left her a phone message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who witnesses stated has repeatedly claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial charged with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the tribunal was told call records and data retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a biological test during the past two years.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most covered child disappearance cases and continues to be unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate voicemail, shared in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I feel what I believe."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording said: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What then? Is that not crucial for you?"
"I do not need money, I possess a living here in Poland, I just want to know," the recording stated.
The jury was informed that via electronic messages, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, transmitted early photographs to her phone in a bid to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a childhood with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an investigator with law enforcement who gathered the information, advised the court there "showed no any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally contacted close associates of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann picked up a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my claim."
The court learned the co-defendant developed a connection through digital means with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in that area in that winter.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had reached out using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to say the press had depicted Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be considered genuine in the time before the trip to the village, the county, in December 2024.
The court heard message exchanges between the two accused, in that autumn, planning attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from cutlery at a eating establishment.
"We need to make a stand," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their house, Mrs Spragg transmitted a message which said: "We're currently positioned adjacent to the McCanns' home with our lights out similar to private investigators. I wanted to do this with another person I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The case continues.
