Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
