Information Available Concerning the Victims of the Bondi Terror Attack

At least 16 people lost their lives and more than 40 were wounded when attackers opened fire at a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian police have labeled a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, authorities have stated the number of fatalities is 16, which includes one of the alleged attackers. Additionally, 42 wounded individuals were taken to the hospital.

The deceased are yet to be formally identified, but investigators think their ages range between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger

London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.

Described as a father of five children, he served as the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and acquaintances spoke of him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.

She recounted the moments leading up to the attack, stating they were standing when the gunfire erupted. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she stated.

The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had later moved to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

Officially, the Foreign Minister expressed that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the statement continued.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, according to police reports.

One Israeli Citizen

An Israeli citizen was among those killed during the attack, according to reports referencing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people transported to hospitals, many remain under care, with several in critical condition. The injured comprise two officers who attended the scene.

A casualty is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. It has been reported he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he recounted the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the shooting. He told reporters he heard “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.

“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
